The Lord’s Coming Salvation
aAwake, awake,
put on your strength, O Zion;
bput on your beautiful garments,
O Jerusalem, cthe holy city;
dfor there shall no more come into you
the uncircumcised and the unclean.
2 aShake yourself from the dust and arise;
be seated, O Jerusalem;
bloose the bonds from your neck,
O captive daughter of Zion.
3 For thus says the Lord: a“You were sold for nothing, and byou shall be redeemed without money.” 4 For thus says the Lord God: a“My people went down at the first into Egypt to sojourn there, and the Assyrian oppressed them for nothing. 5 Now therefore what have I here,” declares the Lord, “seeing that my people are taken away for nothing? Their rulers wail,” declares the Lord, “and acontinually all the day my name is despised. 6 Therefore my people shall know my name. aTherefore in that day they shall know that it is I who speak; here I am.”
7 aHow beautiful upon the mountains
are the feet of him who brings good news,
who publishes peace, bwho brings good news of happiness,
who publishes salvation,
who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”
8 The voice of ayour watchmen—they lift up their voice;
together they sing for joy;
bfor eye to eye they see
the return of the Lord to Zion.
9 aBreak forth together into singing,
byou waste places of Jerusalem,
for cthe Lord has comforted his people;
he has redeemed Jerusalem.
10 aThe Lord has bared his holy arm
before the eyes of all the nations,
band all the ends of the earth shall see
the salvation of our God.
11 aDepart, depart, go out from there;
touch no unclean thing;
go out from the midst of her; purify yourselves,
byou who bear the vessels of the Lord.
12 For you shall not ago out in haste,
and you shall not go in flight,
bfor the Lord will go before you,
cand the God of Israel will be your rear guard.
He Was Pierced for Our Transgressions
13 Behold, amy servant shall act wisely;
he shall be high and lifted up,
and shall be exalted.
14 As many were astonished at you—
ahis appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance,
and his form beyond that of the children of mankind—
15 so ashall he sprinkle many nations.
bKings shall shut their mouths because of him,
cfor that which has not been told them they see,
and that which they have not heard they understand.
aWho has believed what he has heard from us?
And to whom has bthe arm of the Lord been revealed?
2 For he grew up before him like a young plant,
aand like a root out of dry ground;
bhe had no form or majesty that we should look at him,
and no beauty that we should desire him.
3 aHe was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
and as one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and bwe esteemed him not.
4 aSurely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
bsmitten by God, and afflicted.
5 aBut he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
band with his wounds we are healed.
6 aAll we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned—every one—to his own way;
band the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,
ayet he opened not his mouth;
blike a clamb that is led to the slaughter,
and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,
so he opened not his mouth.
8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away;
and as for his generation, awho considered
that he was cut off out of the land of the living,
stricken for the transgression of my people?
9 And they made his grave with the wicked
aand with a rich man in his death,
although bhe had done no violence,
and there was no deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet ait was the will of the Lord to crush him;
he has put him to grief;
bwhen his soul makes an offering for guilt,
he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days;
cthe will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
11 Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied;
by his knowledge shall athe righteous one, my servant,
bmake many to be accounted righteous,
cand he shall bear their iniquities.
12 aTherefore I will divide him a portion with the many,
band he shall divide the spoil with the strong,
because he poured out his soul to death
and was numbered with the transgressors;
cyet he bore the sin of many,
and makes intercession for the transgressors.
