John 14

I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life

a“Let not your hearts be troubled. bBelieve in God;1 believe also in me.
2 In amy Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that bI go to prepare a place for you?1 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you ato myself, that bwhere I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.”1 5 aThomas said to him, “Lord, bwe do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am athe way, and bthe truth, and cthe life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 aIf you had known me, you would have bknown my Father also.1 From now on you do know him and chave seen him.”
8 aPhilip said to him, “Lord, bshow us the Father, and it is enough for us.”
9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? aWhoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that aI am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you bI do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11 Believe me that aI am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else bbelieve on account of the works themselves.
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, awhoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I bam going to the Father.
13 aWhatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that bthe Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 aIf you ask me1 anything in my name, I will do it.

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

15 a“If you love me, you will bkeep my commandments.
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another aHelper,1 to be with you forever, 17 even athe Spirit of truth, bwhom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and cwill be1 in you.
18 “I will not leave you as orphans; aI will come to you.
19 aYet a little while and the world will see me no more, but byou will see me. cBecause I live, you also will live. 20 aIn that day you will know that bI am in my Father, and cyou in me, and dI in you. 21 aWhoever has my commandments and bkeeps them, he it is who loves me. And che who loves me dwill be loved by my Father, and I will love him and emanifest myself to him.” 22 aJudas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it bthat you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered him, a“If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and bwe will come to him and cmake our home with him. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And athe word that you hear is not mine but the Father’s who sent me.
25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you.
26 But the aHelper, the Holy Spirit, bwhom the Father will send in my name, che will teach you all things and dbring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 aPeace I leave with you; bmy peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. cLet not your hearts be troubled, neither dlet them be afraid. 28 aYou heard me say to you, b‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I cam going to the Father, for dthe Father is greater than I. 29 And anow I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe. 30 I will no longer talk much with you, for athe ruler of this world is coming. bHe has no claim on me, 31 but I do aas the Father has commanded me, bso that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.
