Isaiah 29:1-24

Woe to Ariel

Woe, O 1Ariel, 1Ariel the city where David once acamped!
Add year to year, 2bobserve your feasts on schedule.

2
I will bring distress to 1Ariel,
And she will be a city of mourning and amoaning;
And she will be like an Ariel to me.

3
And I will acamp against you 1encircling you,
And I will fortify siegeworks against you,
And I will raise up fortifications against you.

4
Then you will abe brought low;
From the earth you will speak,
And from the dust where you are prostrate
Your words will come.
Your voice will also be like that of a 1spirit from the ground,
And your speech will whisper from the dust.

5
But it will be that the multitude of your 1enemies will become like fine adust,
And the multitude of the bruthless ones like the chaff which 2blows away;
And it will happen cinstantly, suddenly.

6
From Yahweh of hosts you will be apunished with bthunder and earthquake and loud noise,
With whirlwind and tempest and the flame of a consuming fire.

7
And it will be that the amultitude of all the nations who wage war against 1Ariel,
Even all who wage war against her and her stronghold, and who distress her,
Will be like a dream, a bvision of the night.

8
And it will be as when a hungry man dreams—
And behold, he is eating;
But he awakens, and his soul is empty,
Or as when a thirsty man dreams—
And behold, he is drinking,
But he awakens, and behold, he is faint,
And his soul is not quenched.
aThus the multitude of all the nations will be
Who wage war against Mount Zion.

9
aAstonish yourselves and be astonished,
Blind yourselves and be blind;
They bbecome drunk, but not with wine;
They stagger, but not with strong drink.

10
For Yahweh has poured over you a spirit of deep asleep;
He has bshut your eyes, the prophets;
And He has covered your heads, the seers.
11 The entire vision will be to you like the words of a sealed 1abook, which when they give it to the one who 2is literate, saying, “Please read this,” he will say, “I cannot, for it is sealed.” 12 Then the 1book will be given to the one who 2does not know how to read a book, saying, “Please read this.” And he will say, “I 3do not know how to read a book.”
13 Then the Lord said,
“Because athis people draw near with their mouth
And honor Me with their lips,
But they remove their hearts far from Me,
And their fear of Me is in the command of men learned by rote,

14
Therefore behold, I will once again deal amarvelously with this people, wondrously marvelous;
And bthe wisdom of their wise men will perish,
And the discernment of their discerning men will be hidden.”

15
Woe to those who deeply ahide their counsel from Yahweh,
And whose bdeeds are done in a dark place,
And they say, “cWho sees us?” or “Who knows us?”

16
You turn things around!
Shall the potter be considered 1as equal with the clay,
That awhat is made would say to its maker, “He did not make me”;
Or what is formed say to him who formed it, “He has no understanding”?

The Afflicted Will Rejoice

17
Is it not yet just a little while
1Before Lebanon will be turned into a afruitful orchard,
And the fruitful orchard will be counted as a forest?

18
On that day the adeaf will hear bwords of a book,
And out of 1darkness and thick darkness the ceyes of the blind will see.

19
The aafflicted also will increase their gladness in Yahweh,
And the bneedy of mankind will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

20
For the aruthless will come to an end and the bscoffer will be finished,
Indeed call who are watching out to do evil will be cut off;

21
Who 1cause a person to sin by a word,
And aensnare him who reproves at the gate,
And 2bdefraud the one in the right with 3meaningless arguments.

22 Therefore thus says Yahweh, who redeemed aAbraham, concerning the house of Jacob:
“Jacob bshall not now be ashamed, and now his face shall not turn pale;

23
But when 1he sees his achildren, the bwork of My hands, in his midst,
They will sanctify My name;
Indeed, they will csanctify the Holy One of Jacob
And will stand trembling before the God of Israel.

24
Those who aerr in spirit will bknow discernment,
And those who 1criticize will 2cgain learning.

Joel 3:1-21

Yahweh Will Judge the Nations

“1For behold, ain those days and at that time,
When I brestore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,

2
I will agather all the nations
And bring them down to the bvalley of 1Jehoshaphat.
Then I will center into judgment with them there
On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel,
Whom they have dscattered among the nations;
And they have edivided up My land.

3
They have also acast lots for My people,
1bTraded a boy for a harlot,
And sold a girl for wine that they may drink.
4 Moreover, what are you to Me, O aTyre, Sidon, and all the regions of bPhilistia? Are you rendering Me a recompense? But if you do recompense Me, swiftly and speedily I will creturn your recompense on your head. 5 Since you have ataken My silver and My gold, brought My desirable 1treasures to your temples, 6 and sold the asons of Judah and the sons of Jerusalem to the sons of the 1Greeks in order to remove them far from their borders, 7 behold, I am going to arouse them from the place where you have sold them and return your recompense on your head. 8 Also I will asell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the sons of Judah, and they will sell them to the bSabeans, to a distant nation,” for Yahweh has spoken.
9
aCall out this message among the nations:
bSet yourselves apart for a war; crouse the mighty men!
Let all the men of war approach, let them come up!

10
aBeat your plowshares into swords
And your pruning hooks into spears;
bLet the weak say, “I am a mighty man.”

11
1aHasten and come, all you surrounding nations,
And gather yourselves.
There, bring down, O Yahweh, Your bmighty ones.

12
Let the nations be roused up
And come up to the avalley of 1Jehoshaphat,
For there I will sit to bjudge
All the surrounding nations.

13
aSend in the sickle, for the bharvest is ripe.
Come, 1ctread, for the dwine press is full;
The vats overflow, for their eevil is great.

14
aMultitudes, multitudes in the bvalley of 1decision!
For the cday of Yahweh is near in the valley of 1decision.

15
The asun and moon grow dark,
And the stars lose their brightness.

16
And Yahweh aroars from Zion
And bgives forth His voice from Jerusalem,
And the cheavens and the earth quake.
But Yahweh is a drefuge for His people
And a estrong defense to the sons of Israel.

17
Then you will aknow that I am Yahweh your God,
Dwelling in Zion, My bholy mountain.
So Jerusalem will be choly,
And dstrangers will pass through it no more.

Yahweh Dwells in Zion

18
And it will be in that day,
That the amountains will drip with 1sweet wine,
And the hills will bflow with milk,
And all the cbrooks of Judah will flow with water;
And a dspring will go out from the house of Yahweh
To water the valley of 2Shittim.

19
Egypt will become a desolation,
And Edom will become a desolate wilderness,
Because of the aviolence 1done to the sons of Judah,
In whose land they have shed innocent blood.

20
But Judah will be ainhabited forever
And Jerusalem from generation to generation.

21
And I will aavenge their blood which I have not avenged,
Indeed, Yahweh dwells in Zion.

Zechariah 12:1-14:21

Yahweh Will Save

The oracle of the word of Yahweh concerning Israel.
Thus declares Yahweh who astretches out the heavens, blays the foundation of the earth, and cforms the spirit of man within him,
2 “Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a acup 1that causes reeling to all the peoples all around. Now the one in siege against Jerusalem will also be against bJudah. 3 But it will be in that day, that I will make Jerusalem a heavy astone for all the peoples; all who heave it up will be bseverely 1injured. And all the cnations of the earth will be gathered against it. 4 In that day,” declares Yahweh, “I will strike every horse with bewilderment and his rider with madness. But I will open my eyes to watch over the house of Judah, while I strike every horse of the peoples with blindness. 5 Then the clans of Judah will say in their hearts, ‘1A strong support for us are the inhabitants of Jerusalem through Yahweh of hosts, their God.’
6 “In that day I will make the clans of Judah like a afiery laver among pieces of wood and a fiery torch among sheaves, so they will consume on the right hand and on the left all the surrounding peoples, while Jerusalem will again be binhabited in its own place—in Jerusalem.
7 Yahweh also will asave the tents of Judah first so that the glory of the house of bDavid and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem will not be magnified above Judah. 8 In that day Yahweh will adefend the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the one who bstumbles among them in that day will be like David, and the house of David will be like cGod, like the dangel of Yahweh before them. 9 And it will be in that day, that I will aseek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

Mourning for the Pierced One

10 “And I will apour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem 1the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have bpierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one cmourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn.
11 In that day there will be great amourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the 1plain of 2Megiddo. 12 And the land will mourn, each family alone; the family of the house of David alone and their wives alone; the family of the house of Nathan alone and their wives alone; 13 the family of the house of Levi alone and their wives alone; the family of the Shimeites alone and their wives alone; 14 all the families that remain, each family alone and their wives alone.

Jerusalem Refined and Tested

“In that day a afountain will be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for bsin and for cimpurity.

2 “And it will be in that day,” declares Yahweh of hosts, “that I will acut off the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered; and I will also cause the bprophets and the cunclean spirit to pass away from the land.
3 And it will be that if anyone still aprophesies, then his father and mother who gave birth to him will say to him, ‘You shall bnot live, for you have spoken cfalsely in the name of Yahweh’; and his dfather and mother who gave birth to him will pierce him through when he prophesies. 4 And it will be in that day, that the prophets will each be aashamed of his vision when he prophesies, and they will not put on a bhairy mantle in order to deceive; 5 but he will say, ‘I am anot a prophet; I am a cultivator of the ground, for a man 1sold me as a slave in my youth.’ 6 And one will say to him, ‘What are these wounds struck here abetween your 1arms?’ Then he will say, ‘Those with which I was struck in the house of 2my friends.’
7
“Awake, O asword, against My bShepherd
And against the man, My cAssociate,”
Declares Yahweh of hosts.
“dStrike the Shepherd that the sheep may be scattered;
And I will eturn My hand 1against the little ones.

8
And it will be in all the land,”
Declares Yahweh,
“That atwo parts in it will be cut off and breathe their last;
But the third will be left in it.

9
And I will bring the third part through the afire
And refine them as silver is refined
And test them as gold is tested.
1They will bcall on My name,
And I will canswer them;
I will say, ‘They are dMy people,’
And they will say, ‘Yahweh is my God.’”

Yahweh Will Battle the Nations

Behold, a aday is coming for Yahweh when bthe spoil taken from you will be divided among you.
2 Indeed, I will agather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be captured, the bhouses plundered, the women ravished, and half of the city will go forth in exile, but those left of the people will not be cut off from the city. 3 Then Yahweh will go forth and afight against those nations, as the day when He fights on a day of battle. 4 And in that day His feet will astand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be bsplit in its middle from east to west by a very large valley so that half of the mountain will move toward the north and the other half toward the south. 5 And you will flee by the valley of My mountains, for the valley of the mountains will reach to Azel; indeed, you will flee just as you fled before the aearthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. bThen Yahweh, my God, will come, and all the holy ones with 1Him!
6 And it will be in that day, that there will be ano light; the 1luminaries will dwindle.
7 And it will be aa 1unique day which is bknown to Yahweh, neither day nor night, but it will be that at cevening time there will be light.
8 And it will be in that day, athat living waters will flow out of Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and the other half toward the western sea; it will be in summer as well as in winter.

Yahweh Will Be King over All

9 And Yahweh will be aking over all the earth; in that day Yahweh will be the only bone, and His name one.

10 All the land will be changed into a plain from aGeba to bRimmon south of Jerusalem; but 1Jerusalem will crise and dinhabit its site from eBenjamin’s Gate as far as the place of the First Gate to the fCorner Gate, and from the gTower of Hananel to the king’s wine presses.
11 And 1people will inhabit it, and there will ano longer be anything devoted to destruction, for Jerusalem will bbe inhabited in security.
12 Now this will be the plague with which Yahweh will plague all the peoples who have gone to war against Jerusalem; their flesh will arot while they stand on their feet, and their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongue will rot in their mouth.
13 And it will be in that day, that abundant confusion from Yahweh will 1fall on them; and they will atake hold of one another’s hand, and the hand of one will 2go up against the hand of another. 14 aAnd Judah also will fight at Jerusalem; and the bwealth of all the surrounding nations will be gathered, gold and silver and garments in great abundance. 15 And in the same way, athe plague on the horse, the mule, the camel, the donkey, and all the cattle that will be in those camps will be like this plague.
16 Then it will be that any who are left of all the nations that went against Jerusalem will ago up from year to year to worship the King, Yahweh of hosts, and to celebrate the bFeast of Booths.
17 And it will be that whichever of the families of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the aKing, Yahweh of hosts, there will be bno rain on them. 18 And if the family of Egypt does not go up or enter, then no rain will fall on them; it will be the aplague with which Yahweh plagues the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths. 19 This will be the 1punishment of Egypt, and the 1punishment of all the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths.
20 In that day there will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, “aHoly to Yahweh.” And the bpots in the house of Yahweh will be like the bowls before the altar.
21 And every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah will be aholy to Yahweh of hosts; and all who sacrifice will come and take of them and boil in them. And there will no longer be a 1bCanaanite in the house of Yahweh of hosts in that day.
