Matthew 27:51-66
51 aAnd behold, bthe veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom; and cthe earth shook and the rocks were split. 52 And the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had afallen asleep were raised; 53 and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered athe holy city and appeared to many. 54 aNow the centurion, and those who were with him bkeeping guard over Jesus, when they saw cthe earthquake and the things that were happening, became very frightened and said, “Truly this was dGod’s Son!”
55 aAnd many women were there looking on from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee while bministering to Him. 56 Among them was aMary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and bthe mother of the sons of Zebedee.

57 aNow when it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus. 58 This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. 59 And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled aa large stone against the entrance of the tomb and went away. 61 And aMary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the grave.
62 Now on the next day, the day after athe Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered together with Pilate, 63 and said, “Sir, we remember that when He was still alive that deceiver said, ‘aAfter three days I am to rise again.’ 64 Therefore, order for the grave to be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come and steal Him away and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.” 65 Pilate said to them, “You have a aguard; go, make it as secure as you know how.” 66 And they went and made the grave secure, and along with athe guard they set a bseal on cthe stone.

45 because the sun was obscured. And athe veil of the sanctuary was torn in two.
Luke 23:47-56
47 aNow when the centurion saw what had happened, he began bpraising God, saying, “Certainly this man was righteous.” 48 And all the crowds who came together for this spectacle, when they observed what had happened, were returning, abeating their chests. 49 aAnd all His acquaintances and athe women who accompanied Him from Galilee were standing at a distance, watching these things.

50 aAnd behold, a man named Joseph, who was a bCouncil member, a good and righteous man 51 (he had not consented to their counsel and action), a man from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who was awaiting for the kingdom of God; 52 this man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 53 And he took it down and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb cut into the rock, where no one had ever lain. 54 It was aPreparation day, and the Sabbath was about to begin. 55 Now athe women, who had come with Him from Galilee, followed and beheld the tomb and how His body was laid. 56 Then after they returned, they aprepared spices and perfumes.
And bon the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.
John 19:31-42
31 Then the Jews, because it was athe day of Preparation, so that bthe bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a chigh day), asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. 32 So the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first man and of the other who was acrucified with Him; 33 but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately ablood and water came out. 35 And he who has seen has aborne witness, and his witness is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe. 36 For these things came to pass ain order that the Scripture would be fulfilled, “bNot a bone of Him shall be broken.” 37 And again another Scripture says, “aThey shall look on Him whom they pierced.”

38 aNow after these things Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but bsecretly because of his cfear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate granted permission. So he came and took away His body. 39 aAnd Nicodemus, who had first come to Him by night, also came, bbringing a mixture of cmyrrh and aloes, weighing about one dhundred litras. 40 So they took the body of Jesus and abound it in blinen wrappings with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews. 41 Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a anew tomb bin which no one had yet been laid. 42 Therefore because of the Jewish day of aPreparation, since the tomb was bnearby, they laid Jesus there.
