Matthew 27:32-50

32 aAnd as they were coming out, they found a man of bCyrene named Simon, 1whom they pressed into service to bear His cross.

The Crucifixion

33 aAnd when they came to a place called bGolgotha, which means Place of a Skull,
34 athey gave Him bwine to drink mixed with gall; and after tasting it, He did not want to drink.
35 And when they had crucified Him, athey divided up His garments among themselves by casting 1lots.
36 And sitting down, they began to akeep watch over Him there. 37 And above His head they put up the charge against Him 1which read, “aTHIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
38 At that time two robbers *were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left.
39 And those passing by were blaspheming Him, ashaking their heads 40 and saying, “aYou who are going to destroy the sanctuary and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! bIf You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” 41 In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him and saying, 42 “aHe saved others; 1He cannot save Himself. bHe is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him. 43 aHe trusts in God; let God rescue Him now, if He 1delights in Him; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 aAnd the robbers who had been crucified with Him were also insulting Him with the same words.
45 aNow from the 1sixth hour darkness 2fell upon all the land until the 3ninth hour.
46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “aEli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” 47 And some of those who were standing there, when they heard it, began saying, “This man is calling for Elijah.” 48 aAnd immediately one of them ran, and taking a sponge, he filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink. 49 But the rest of them were saying, “1Let us see whether Elijah will come to save Him2.” 50 And Jesus acried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.

Luke 23:26-46

Simon Carries the Cross

26 aAnd when they led Him away, they took hold of a man, Simon of bCyrene, coming in from the country, and placed on him the cross to carry behind Jesus.

27 And following Him was a large multitude of the people, and of women who were 1amourning and lamenting Him.
28 But Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, stop crying for Me, but cry for yourselves and for your children. 29 For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘aBlessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.’ 30 Then they will begin to asay to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’ 31 For if they do these things 1when the tree is green, what will happen 2when it is dry?”
32 aNow two others also, who were criminals, were being led away to be put to death with Him.

The Crucifixion

33 aAnd when they came to the place called 1The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.
34 1But Jesus was saying, “aFather, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” bAnd they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves. 35 And the people stood by, looking on. And even the arulers were scoffing at Him, saying, “He saved others; blet Him save Himself if this is the 1Christ of God, His Chosen One.” 36 And the soldiers also mocked Him, coming up to Him, aoffering Him sour wine, 37 and saying, “aIf You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!” 38 Now there was also an inscription above Him, “aTHIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
39 aAnd one of the criminals hanging there was blaspheming Him, saying, “Are You not the 1Christ? bSave Yourself and us!”
40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving 1what we deserve for what we have done; but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 And he was saying, “Jesus, remember me when You come 1in Your kingdom!” 43 And He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in aParadise.”
44 aAnd it was now about 1bthe sixth hour, and darkness 2fell over the whole land until 3the ninth hour,
45 1because the sun was obscured. And athe veil of the 2sanctuary was torn 3in two. 46 And Jesus, acrying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, binto Your hands I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last.

John 19:17-30

17 aThey took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, 1bbearing His own cross, to the place called cthe Place of a Skull, which is called din 2Hebrew, Golgotha.
18 There they crucified Him, and with Him atwo other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between. 19 And Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written, “aJESUS THE NAZARENE, bTHE KING OF THE JEWS.” 20 Therefore many of the Jews read this inscription, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written ain 1Hebrew, Latin, and in Greek. 21 So the chief priests of the Jews were saying to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘aThe King of the Jews;’ but that He said, ‘I am aKing of the Jews.’” 22 Pilate answered, “aWhat I have written I have written.”
23 Then athe soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His garments and made bfour parts, a part to each soldier and also His 1tunic; now that tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from the top.
24 So they said to one another, “aLet us not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be;” bthis was in order that the Scripture would be fulfilled: “They cdivided My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast 1lots.” 25 Therefore the soldiers did these things.
aBut standing by the cross of Jesus were bHis mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and cMary Magdalene.
26 When Jesus then saw His mother, and athe disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He *said to His mother, “bWoman, behold, your son!” 27 Then He *said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” From that hour the disciple took her into ahis home.

Scripture Fulfilled—It Is Finished

28 After this, Jesus, aknowing that all things had already been finished, bin order 1to finish the Scripture, *said, “cI am thirsty.”
29 A jar full of sour wine was standing there; so athey put a sponge full of the sour wine upon a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth. 30 Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “aIt is finished!” And bowing His head, He bgave up His spirit.
