Matthew 26:17-30

The Passover Meal

17 aNow on the first day of bUnleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?”
18 And He said, “Go into the city to aa certain man, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, “bMy time is near; I am keeping the Passover at your house with My disciples.”’” 19 And the disciples did as Jesus had directed them; and they prepared the Passover.
20 aNow when evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the twelve disciples.
21 And as they were eating, He said, “aTruly I say to you that one of you will betray Me.” 22 And being deeply grieved, they 1each one began to say to Him, “Surely not I, Lord?” 23 And He answered and said, “aHe who dipped his hand with Me in the bowl is the one who will betray Me. 24 The Son of Man is going, ajust as it is written of Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! bIt would have been good 1for that man if he had not been born.” 25 And aJudas, who was betraying Him, answered and said, “Surely not I, bRabbi?” Jesus *said to him, “cYou yourself said it.”

The Lord’s Supper

26 aNow while they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and 1bafter a blessing, He broke it. And giving it to the disciples, He said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”
27 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; 28 for athis is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for bmany for forgiveness of sins. 29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
30 aAnd after singing a hymn, they went out to bthe Mount of Olives.

The Passover Meal

7 aThen came the first day of Unleavened Bread on which bthe Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.
8 And Jesus sent aPeter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it.” 9 And they said to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare it?” 10 And He said to them, “Behold, after you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house that he enters. 11 And you shall say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ 12 And he will show you a large, furnished upper room; prepare it there.” 13 And they left and found everything just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.

The Lord’s Supper

14 aAnd when the hour had come, He reclined at the table, and bthe apostles with Him.
15 And He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I shall never again eat it auntil it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17 aAnd when He had taken a cup and bgiven thanks, He said, “Take this and share it among yourselves. 18 For aI say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 And when He had taken some bread and agiven thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is apoured out for you is the bnew covenant in My blood. 21 aBut behold, the hand of the one betraying Me is with Me on the table. 22 For indeed, the Son of Man is going aas it has been determined; but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!” 23 And they began to argue among themselves which one of them it might be who was going to do this thing.

Jesus Predicts His Betrayal

21 When Jesus had said these things, He abecame troubled in spirit, and bore witness and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, that bone of you will 1betray Me.”
22 The disciples began looking at one another, aperplexed about whom He *spoke. 23 There was reclining on aJesus’ bosom one of His disciples, bwhom Jesus loved. 24 So Simon Peter *gestured to him to inquire, “Who is the one of whom He is speaking?” 25 He, aleaning back thus on Jesus’ bosom, *said to Him, “Lord, who is it?” 26 Jesus *answered, “He is the one for whom I shall dip the piece of bread and give it to him.” So when He had dipped the piece of bread, He *took and *gave it to Judas, athe son of Simon Iscariot. 27 And after the piece of bread, aSatan then bentered into him. Therefore Jesus *said to him, “What you do, do quickly.” 28 Now no one of those reclining at the table knew for what purpose He had said this to him. 29 For some were thinking, because Judas ahad the money box, that Jesus was saying to him, “Buy the things we have need of bfor the feast”; or else, that he should cgive something to the poor. 30 So after receiving the piece of bread, he went out immediately. And ait was night.
