Matthew 21:1-9

The Triumphal Entry

aAnd when they had approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, at bthe Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,
2 saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. 3 And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.” 4 aAnd this 1took place in order that what was spoken through the prophet would be fulfilled, saying,
5
“aSay to the daughter of Zion,
‘Behold your King is coming to you,
Lowly, and mounted on a donkey,
And on a colt, the foal of a pack animal.’”
6 And the disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them, 7 and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their garments on them; and He sat on 1the garments. 8 And most of the crowd aspread their garments in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in the road. 9 And the crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were crying out, saying,
“Hosanna to the aSon of David;
bBlessed is He who comes in the name of the 1Lord;
Hosanna cin the highest!”

Luke 19:29-40

29 aAnd it happened that when He approached Bethphage and bBethany, near the mount called “of cOlives,” He sent two of the disciples,
30 saying, “Go into the village ahead of you; in which, as you enter, you will find a colt tied, on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here. 31 And if anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘Because the Lord has need of it.’” 32 So when those who were sent departed, they found it just as He had told them. 33 And as they were untying the colt, its 1owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 And they said, “The Lord has need of it.” 35 And they brought it to Jesus, aand after they threw their garments on the colt, they put Jesus on it. 36 And as He was going, they were spreading their garments on the road. 37 Now as soon as He was approaching, near the descent of athe Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to bpraise God, rejoicing with a loud voice for all the 1miracles which they had seen, 38 saying,
“aBlessed is the bKing who comes in the name of the 1Lord.
Peace in heaven and cglory in the highest!”
39 aAnd some of the Pharisees 1in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.” 40 But Jesus answered and said, “I tell you, if these were silent, athe stones will cry out!”
