Matthew 26:1
The Plot to Kill Jesus
aNow it happened that when Jesus had finished all these words, He said to His disciples,
Matthew 26:2
2 “aYou know that after two days bthe Passover is coming, and the Son of Man is to be cdelivered over for crucifixion.”
Matthew 26:11-31
11 For you always have athe poor with you; but you do not always have Me. 12 For when she poured this perfume on My body, she did it ato prepare Me for burial. 13 Truly I say to you, awherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of in memory of her.”
Judas Looks to Betray Jesus
14 aThen one of the twelve, named bJudas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, “What are you willing to give me to adeliver Him to you?” And bthey weighed out thirty pieces of silver to him. 16 And from then on he began looking for a good opportunity to betray Jesus.
The Passover Meal
17 aNow on the first day of bUnleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?” 18 And He said, “Go into the city to aa certain man, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, “bMy time is near; I am keeping the Passover at your house with My disciples.”’” 19 And the disciples did as Jesus had directed them; and they prepared the Passover.
20 aNow when evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the twelve disciples. 21 And as they were eating, He said, “aTruly I say to you that one of you will betray Me.” 22 And being deeply grieved, they each one began to say to Him, “Surely not I, Lord?” 23 And He answered and said, “aHe who dipped his hand with Me in the bowl is the one who will betray Me. 24 The Son of Man is going, ajust as it is written of Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! bIt would have been good for that man if he had not been born.” 25 And aJudas, who was betraying Him, answered and said, “Surely not I, bRabbi?” Jesus *said to him, “cYou yourself said it.”
The Lord’s Supper
26 aNow while they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and bafter a blessing, He broke it. And giving it to the disciples, He said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” 27 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; 28 for athis is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for bmany for forgiveness of sins. 29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
30 aAnd after singing a hymn, they went out to bthe Mount of Olives.
31 Then Jesus *said to them, “You will all afall away because of Me this night, for it is written, ‘bI will strike down the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be cscattered.’
Luke 23:1-6
Jesus Before Pilate
Then their whole assembly rose up and abrought Him before Pilate. 2 aAnd they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this man bmisleading our nation and cforbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.” 3 So Pilate asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” And He answered him and said, “aYou yourself say it.” 4 Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “aI find no guilt in this man.” 5 But they kept on insisting, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching all over Judea, astarting from Galilee even as far as this place.”
6 Now when Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.
Luke 23:13-25
Pilate Grants the Crowd’s Request
13 And Pilate summoned the chief priests and the arulers and the people, 14 and said to them, “You brought this man to me as one who aincites the people to rebellion, and behold, having examined Him before you, I bhave found in this man no guilt of what you are accusing Him. 15 No, nor has aHerod, for he sent Him back to us; and behold, nothing deserving death has been done by Him. 16 Therefore I will apunish Him and release Him.” 17 [Now he was obliged to release to them at the feast one prisoner.]
18 But they cried out all together, saying, “aAway with this man, and release for us Barabbas!” 19 (He had been thrown into prison for an insurrection made in the city and for murder.) 20 But again Pilate addressed them, wanting to release Jesus, 21 but they kept on calling out, saying, “Crucify, crucify Him!” 22 And he said to them a third time, “Why, what evil has this man done? I have found in Him no guilt worthy of death; therefore I will apunish Him and release Him.” 23 But they were insistent, with loud voices asking that He be crucified. And their voices were prevailing. 24 And Pilate pronounced sentence that their demand be granted. 25 And he released the man they were asking for who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, but he delivered Jesus to their will.
John 18:28-19:16
Jesus Before Pilate
28 aThen they *led Jesus from bCaiaphas into cthe Praetorium, and it was early; and they themselves did not enter into cthe Praetorium so that dthey would not be defiled, but might eat the Passover. 29 aTherefore Pilate went out to them and *said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?” 30 They answered and said to him, “If this man were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him to you.” 31 So Pilate said to them, “Take Him yourselves, and judge Him according to your law.” The Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death,” 32 in order that athe word of Jesus which He spoke would be fulfilled, signifying by what kind of death He was about to die.
33 Therefore Pilate aentered again into the Praetorium, and summoned Jesus and said to Him, “bAre You the King of the Jews?” 34 Jesus answered, “Are you saying this from yourself, or did others tell you about Me?” 35 Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered You to me; what did You do?” 36 Jesus answered, “aMy kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be delivered over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not from here.” 37 Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “aYou yourself said I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, bto bear witness to the truth. cEveryone who is of the truth hears My voice.” 38 Pilate *said to Him, “What is truth?”
And when he had said this, he awent out again to the Jews and *said to them, “bI find no guilt in Him. 39 aBut you have a custom that I release someone for you at the Passover; do you wish then that I release for you the King of the Jews?” 40 So they cried out again, saying, “aNot this man, but Barabbas.” Now Barabbas was a robber.
Jesus Flogged and Rejected as King
Pilate then took Jesus and aflogged Him. 2 aAnd when the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and put a purple robe on Him; 3 and they were coming to Him and saying, “aHail, King of the Jews!” and were bgiving Him slaps in the face. 4 And Pilate acame out again and *said to them, “Behold, I am bringing Him out to you so that you may know that bI find no guilt in Him.” 5 Jesus then came out, awearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate *said to them, “Behold, the man!” 6 So when the chief priests and the aofficers saw Him, they cried out saying, “Crucify, crucify!” Pilate *said to them, “Take Him yourselves and crucify Him, for bI find no guilt in Him.” 7 The Jews answered him, “aWe have a law, and by that law He ought to die because He bmade Himself out to be the Son of God.”
8 Therefore when Pilate heard this statement, he became more afraid; 9 and he aentered into the Praetorium again and *said to Jesus, “Where are You from?” But bJesus gave him no answer. 10 So Pilate *said to Him, “You do not speak to me? Do You not know that I have authority to release You, and I have authority to crucify You?” 11 Jesus answered, “aYou would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above; for this reason bhe who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.” 12 As a result of this Pilate kept seeking to release Him, but the Jews cried out saying, “aIf you release this man, you are no friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself to be a king opposes Caesar.”
13 Therefore when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and asat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Stone Pavement, but bin Hebrew, Gabbatha. 14 Now it was athe day of Preparation for the Passover; it was about the bsixth hour. And he *said to the Jews, “Behold, cyour King!” 15 So they cried out, “aAway with Him! Away with Him! Crucify Him!” Pilate *said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.”
The Crucifixion
16 So he then adelivered Him over to them to be crucified.
