Matthew 21:1-11

The Triumphal Entry

aAnd when they had approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, at bthe Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,
2 saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. 3 And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.” 4 aAnd this 1took place in order that what was spoken through the prophet would be fulfilled, saying,
5
“aSay to the daughter of Zion,
‘Behold your King is coming to you,
Lowly, and mounted on a donkey,
And on a colt, the foal of a pack animal.’”
6 And the disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them, 7 and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their garments on them; and He sat on 1the garments. 8 And most of the crowd aspread their garments in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in the road. 9 And the crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were crying out, saying,
“Hosanna to the aSon of David;
bBlessed is He who comes in the name of the 1Lord;
Hosanna cin the highest!”
10 And when He had entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, “Who is this?” 11 And the crowds were saying, “This is athe prophet Jesus, from bNazareth in Galilee.”

Matthew 27:20-25

20 But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to aask for Barabbas and to put Jesus to death. 21 But the governor answered and said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.” 22 Pilate *said to them, “Then, what shall I do with Jesus awho is called 1Christ?” They all *said, “Let Him be crucified!” 23 And he said, “Why, what evil did He do?” But they were crying out all the more, saying, “Let Him be crucified!”
24 Now when Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that aa riot was starting, he took water and bwashed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of cthis man’s blood; dsee to that yourselves.”
25 And all the people answered and said, “aHis blood be on us and on our children!”
