2 Thessalonians 2:1-17

The Man of Lawlessness

Now we ask you, abrothers, with regard to the 1bcoming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our cgathering together to Him,
2 that you not be quickly shaken in your mind or be alarmed whether by a aspirit or a bword or a cletter as if from us, to the effect that dthe day of the Lord ehas come. 3 aLet no one in any way deceive you, for it has not come unless the 1bapostasy comes first, and the cman of lawlessness is revealed, the dson of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above 1aevery so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the 2sanctuary of God, bexhibiting himself as being God. 5 Do you not remember that awhile I was still with you, I was telling you these things? 6 And you know awhat restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. 7 For athe mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only bhe who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. 8 And then that lawless one awill be revealed—whom the Lord 1Jesus bwill slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the cappearance of His 2coming— 9 whose 1coming is in accord with the working of aSatan, with all power and 2bsigns and false wonders, 10 and with 1all the deception of unrighteousness for athose who perish, because they did not receive the love of bthe truth so as to be saved. 11 And for this reason aGod sends upon them a 1bdeluding influence so that they will believe 2what is false, 12 in order that they all may be 1judged who adid not believe the truth, but 2btook pleasure in unrighteousness.
13 aBut we should always give thanks to God for you, bbrothers beloved by the Lord, because cGod has chosen you 1as the first fruits dfor salvation ethrough sanctification 2by the Spirit and faith in the truth.
14 1It was for this He acalled you through bour gospel, 2that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 So then, brothers, astand firm and bhold to the traditions which you were taught, whether cby word of mouth or cby letter 1from us.
16 aNow may our Lord Jesus Christ aHimself and God our Father, who has bloved us and given us eternal comfort and cgood hope by grace,
17 aencourage your hearts and bstrengthen them in every good work and word.

1 Timothy 4:1-16

Some Will Fall Away

But athe Spirit explicitly says that bin later times some will 1fall away from the faith, paying attention to cdeceitful spirits and ddoctrines of demons,
2 by the hypocrisy of liars, who have been aseared in their own conscience, 3 who aforbid marriage and advocate babstaining from foods which cGod created to be shared in dwith thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For aeverything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is breceived with thanksgiving, 5 for it is sanctified by athe word of God and prayer.

A Good Minister’s Discipline

6 In pointing out these things to athe brothers, you will be a good bservant of Christ Jesus, being nourished on the words of the faith and of the 1csound doctrine which you dhave been following.
7 But refuse agodless bmyths fit only for old women. On the other hand, train yourself for the purpose of cgodliness, 8 for abodily training is only of little profit, but bgodliness is profitable for all things, since it cholds promise for the dpresent life and also for the life to come. 9 aIt is a trustworthy saying and deserving full acceptance. 10 For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed aour hope on bthe living God, who is cthe Savior of all men, especially of believers.
11 aCommand and teach these things.
12 aLet no one look down on your youthfulness, but show yourself as ba model to those who believe in word, conduct, clove, faith, and purity. 13 aUntil I come, give attention to the public breading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching. 14 Do not neglect the gift within you, which was given to you through aprophetic utterance with bthe laying on of hands by the ccouncil of elders. 15 Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all. 16 aPay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will bsave both yourself and those who hear you.
