Genesis 12:6
6 And Abram passed through the land as far as the site of aShechem, to the oak of Moreh. Now the Canaanite was then in the land.

7 Then Yahweh aappeared to Abram and said, “bTo your seed I will give this land.” So he built can altar there to Yahweh who had appeared to him.

18 Now Jacob came safely to the city of aShechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from bPaddan-aram, and he camped before the city. 19 aThen he bought a portion of a field where he had pitched his tent from the hand of the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred qesitah. 20 Then he set up there an altar and called it El-Elohe-Israel.
Genesis 35:2-4
2 So Jacob said to his ahousehold and to all who were with him, “Put away bthe foreign gods which are among you and ccleanse yourselves and change your garments; 3 and let us arise and go up to Bethel, and I will make aan altar there to God, bwho answered me in the day of my distress and chas been with me wherever I have gone.” 4 So they gave to Jacob all the foreign gods which they had and the rings which were in their ears, and Jacob hid them under the oak which was near Shechem.
