27 And he will make a ¹firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will make sacrifice and grain offering cease; and on the wing of ²^aabominations will come one who ³makes desolate, even until a ^bcomplete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who ³makes desolate.”

30 Indeed, ships of ¹^aKittim will come against him; therefore he will be disheartened and will return and become indignant at the holy covenant and take action; so he will come back and show regard for those who forsake the holy covenant. 31 Mighty forces from him will stand, ^aprofane the sanctuary fortress, and abolish the regular sacrifice. And they will set up the ^babomination ¹of desolation. 32 And by ^asmooth words he will ¹turn to godlessness those who act wickedly toward the covenant, but the people who know their God will display ^bstrength and take action. 33 And ¹^athose who have insight among the people will give understanding to the many; yet they will ^bfall by sword and by flame, by captivity and by plunder for many days. 34 Now when they fall, they will be granted a little help, and many will ^ajoin with them in ¹^bintrigue. 35 And some of ¹those who have insight will fall, in order to ^arefine, ^bpurge, and make them ²^cpure until the time of the ^dend, because it is still to come at the appointed time.
36 “Then the king will ^ado as he pleases, and he will exalt and ^bmagnify himself above every god and will ^cspeak ¹astonishing things against the ^dGod of gods; and he will succeed until the ^eindignation is finished, for that which is ^fdecreed will be done. 37 He will show no regard for the ¹gods of his fathers or for the desire of women, nor will he show regard for any other god; for he will magnify himself above them all. 38 But ¹instead he will honor a god of fortresses, a god whom his fathers did not know; he will honor him with gold, silver, costly stones, and desirable things.
